Hollenski listamaðurinn Kees Visser er einn af eftirtektarverðustu fulltrúum geómetrískra aðferða og hugmyndalistar. Langur og gifturíkur ferill Visser tengist náið þróun íslenskrar myndlistar á 8. og 9. áratugnum þegar póstmódernískir straumar voru ráðandi.

Ups and Downs spannar tímabil sem hófst árið 1976 með einkasýningu Kees í Gallerí súm. Athyglinni er einkum beint að þeim verkum sem Kees vann þegar hann bjó á Íslandi og bera kaflarnir heiti þeirra staða sem verkin eru innblásin af; Varmaland, Stórutjarnir og Reykjavík.

The Dutch artist Kees Visser is one of the most noteworthy representatives of geometric and conceptual art. His long and fruitful career is closely linked with the evolution of Icelandic art in the seventies and eighties, when conceptual and postmodern currents were at its height.

This book covers a period that started with his private exhibition in SÚM Gallery in 1976, mostly focusing on the works he created while living in Iceland.
