Um bókina
Lament for a Horse contains arount 80 photographs of a dead horse out in a field gradually decomposing and eventually merging with the earth.
The work is described as a „visual lament, a tribute to the Icelandic horse that has played a significant role in shaping Iceland‘s history and culture,“ as Hlynur puts it.
At the same time, the work speaks very strongly to contemporary aesthetics, particularly with its references to environmental issues and climate concerns.
Hlynur is one of Iceland‘s leading filmmakers, and his latest film, Godland (2022), was nominated for the Oscars on behalf of Iceland.
Soffía Auður Birgisdóttir contributes the introduction to the book.
The book is designed by Arnar Freyr Guðmundsson and Birna Geirfinnsdóttir at Studio Studio.
